Phylicia Hodges
Phylicia (she/they) is a multidisciplinary visual artist and art educator, born and raised in West Philadelphia. As a Philly area native, Phylicia has devoted over a decade of their life facilitating meaningful art experiences with non-profit arts organizations all across the city, most notably with the Barnes Foundation and Mural Arts Philadelphia.
Their practice as an artist is expansive, having earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Art Education from the University of Vermont in 2020. While their personal art practice has slowed down some, Phylicia has since returned to the classroom as an Instructional Paraprofessional full time with West Philadelphia Achievement Charter Elementary School, an Arts and Technology School here in Philly. She firmly believes that art has the power to open minds, shift perspectives, and change the world and in their weekend role as Playspace and Events Associate with PlayArts, she enjoys watching the worlds of art and play collide to make some memorable experiences for littles across Philadelphia.
When she is not in the classroom or Playspace you can find them working on their pottery wheel throwing stoneware mugs or cuddling up with their orange tabby, Luna. If you would like to check out some of the other work she is committed to, head over to their Instagram: @phodgesart for more!
