Ala’a Brumley

Teacher Ala’a (she/her) is a Philly native, currently pursuing an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education at Community College of Philadelphia. Proudly, Shakirah is among the first generation in her family to pursue a college degree. Her childcare experience includes student-teaching for two years in a preschool program, helping children ages 4-5 with Kindergarten prep. Additionally, for the past eight years, her most intimate experience is helping to raise her twin brothers who are on the autism spectrum.

Ala’a’s interest in teaching stems from school being a safe space for her while growing up. Looking up to her teachers as a second parent and taking in the information and stories they would share about life and being an adult. This involvement helped her realize just how big of an impact education and educators can have on adolescents and it sparked interest in becoming a positive figure in the lives of children, especially those who may share a similar background.
